Background

B3 Living is an independent social housing provider aiming to create great places where people want to live. B3 Living is repeatedly ranked in the top 10 of the Sunday Times Top 100 companies to work for in the not-for-profit sector. B3 was very keen to upgrade its recruitment process to a strengths-based approach in order to find new team members who were a good fit for their values, had the skills and competencies required for the roles, as well as supporting B3’s commitment to diversity in the workplace.

Our solution

  • Key members of the B3 Living recruitment team attended a Strengthscope® Practitioner training and Strengths-Based Interviewing masterclass run by Strengthscope
  • This provided the recruitment team with the tools and skills needed to develop their own strengths-based assessment and interviewing process, supported by the Strengthscope team
  • Following on from a successful pilot, the approach was rolled out more widely within the organization, with a broader group trained in the use of the approach and tools.

Outcome

B3 Living were delighted by the outcome from introducing a strengths-based interviewing approach supported by Strengthscope®.

  • The recruitment team found that the depth and richness of the information obtained from candidates was extremely useful in getting a fuller picture of their capabilities, what they enjoyed and what they found demotivating.
  • The depth of the questioning gave the team a real sense of the candidates’ level of experience and also their capabilities and suitability to the role. They have been very pleased with the appointments made to date using their new process.
  • B3 Living now ranks at number 4 in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index.

Using strengths-based interviewing gave us a fuller understanding of each candidate and ensured we made our recruitment decision with absolute confidence. What’s more, we now have advance knowledge of our new recruit’s strengths profile which will help us to get off to a flying start.
